“An Elephant In The Room” is a tribute to a great business icon and sailing legend. This was commissioned by a special family to paint a tribute to their late husband/father who passed away, much too early, after his family had planned a trip to Africa. While he did not make the trip to Africa his family did and the continent moved and inspired the family to such a degree that they wanted to depict a tribute to him in a herd of elephants. A larger than life presence, he was often referred to in business circles as ‘the elephant in the room.’
Featured in the center of the painting is this great man in his prime, coming forward with his trunk cutting through the water just like a racing sailboat would cut through with its bow. To the right side of the canvas are his two sons and to the left of the canvas is his daughter and his wife. The African wild dogs represent the three dogs that the family had when he passed.
At the lower right background are his three brothers, one of them who has passed away, and in the lower left background we see his daughter’s new husband and their child who has just arrived.
The painting pays tribute to the character, the integrity and the soul of this man and his expansive love of life and family. His spirit will always watch over them in their family home.
